Safeguarding & Professional Standards
The principles and boundaries that underpin working with young people. Written carefully and without overclaiming — specifics can be confirmed when you enquire.
Background checks
Working one-to-one with young people carries a responsibility I take seriously. Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) details can be confirmed directly on request when you enquire. Please ask, and I will share the relevant information before any tutoring begins.
Professional boundaries
Tutoring is a professional relationship. Sessions stay focused on the subject, communication remains appropriate and transparent, and I keep clear boundaries with both students and families. I do not contact students privately outside agreed channels.
Communication with parents
For students under 18, a parent or guardian is kept informed and is welcome to be present or nearby during sessions. Arrangements, scheduling and progress updates go through the parent or guardian, and I am happy to agree how you would prefer to stay in the loop.
Online tutoring standards
Online sessions are run over a reputable video platform with a shared interactive whiteboard. For younger students I recommend sessions take place in a shared family space, and a parent or guardian is welcome to check in at any time. Recording only happens if it is explicitly agreed in advance.
Honest claims
I describe my training and experience accurately and avoid promising specific grades or outcomes. Any feedback published on this site will be genuine and shared with permission. I would rather under-claim and over-deliver than the reverse.
Academic integrity
Support is always about helping a student think and write better for themselves. On A-Level coursework and the NEA in particular: I can support planning, research habits, structure, argument clarity and feedback, but I do not write coursework for students.
Raising a concern
If you ever have a concern about a session or about safeguarding, please raise it with me directly at brunoavbergen@gmail.com. Serious safeguarding concerns should also be reported to the relevant school or local authority.
